Miami – A Hot City To Visit…in More Ways Than One!

by rlaurendeau on August 12, 2009

Miami is one of the hottest cities in the country right now, and for good reason – it’s a beacon of fashion, finance, and fun. Miami truly reigns supreme among vacation destinations in the continental U.S. Not only does it offer tons of fun and unique attractions, but with a little planning, it’s surprisingly affordable!

It’s no secret that Florida is one of our country’s most popular states to visit, and it features some truly unique offerings: the Everglades, Key West, and much more. What makes Miami truly special is that it is located near many of these attractions. Best of all, you can easily plan an affordable vacation and still see most of these attractions!

First up: you can’t visit Florida and miss the Everglades. Fortunately, the Everglades is a state park so it only costs $10 per vehicle to enter, and that’s good for 7 consecutive days! Truly a national treasure, the Everglades is the 3rd largest state park in the country (covering about 1.5 million acres), so we definitely recommend mapping out which areas you’d like to visit before you get there. The park offers the usual state park amenities of hiking and biking trails, Fort Lauderdale kayak rentals, campsites, and guided tours, but the subtropical environment and one-of-a-kind wildlife (such as crocodiles) present a unique challenge to visitors, so we strongly recommend visiting the park’s website prior to visiting.

No Florida vacation is complete without visiting the beach, and Miami has plenty to choose from, most of which have no admission charge. If crowded beaches aren’t your thing, though, don’t worry – in addition to their many ocean-facing beaches, Miami and its surrounding areas have a plethora of inland lakes and rivers. Whether you want to lay on the banks and catch some rays, take a peaceful sail down a lazy river, or take a short drive up to Fort Lauderdale in your rental car in Fort Lauderdale to enjoy a day of fun with a jet ski rental in Fort Lauderdale and really let loose, your vacation needs are covered!

Of course, the ultimate budget-conscious way to visit Miami is just to walk around! Depending on your mood, the weather, and which parts of the city you want to check out, there are plenty of places to go for a walk in and around Miami. You can opt for a walk on the beach or boardwalk, or wander through the shops and restaurants of CocoWalk (in the Coconut Grove section of the city). A word of caution, though: if you’re not familiar with the city, definitely take the time to plan your walk beforehand, and bring a map with you, just in case you take a wrong turn.

One thing that’s really great about Miami is that you rarely have to worry about the weather. While it may be raining, it’s extremely rare for the temperature to fall below 65 degrees (even in January!), or to rise above 98 degrees. This great weather means that, regardless of what time of year you visit, you’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery and many wonderful outdoor attractions!

See you in Miami Florida soon!
