Lake Mead & its Little Sister Lake Mohave

Not long ago, we mentioned Lake Mead in our post about Hoover Dam and the surrounding area. In this post, we want to focus specifically on Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, and the vacation recreational opportunities you might enjoy at these lake destinations.

Lake Mead is actually the largest reservoir in the United States; its waters are held back by the famous Hoover Dam. We could say a lot about Lake Mead, but you have to visit it to really take in the surroundings. Because Lake Mead was created by impounding the waters of the Colorado River, this 247 square-mile lake is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges that create some really fabulous sights. We recommend that you definitely check out Lake Mead at sunset!

Part of the greater Colorado River, both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave have become popular tourist and vacation destinations for many people who enjoy outdoor recreation and watersports. As part of the great Lake Mead National Recreation Area, you can find a lot to do on and around Lake Mead and its little sister lake, Lake Mohave.

Both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave are best known for boating. Many visitors to this area get a boat rental in Arizona and spend most of their time floating out on the water, water skiing, cruising the lakes, and taking in the sights. At many of the port cities along both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, you can find rental companies that will fit you with the best boat to meet your vacation needs. If you choose Lake Mohave, we recommend that you consider lodging in Bullhead City, AZ.

Other lake visitors prefer to spend all their time out on the water, renting a houseboat for a week or more. The great thing about a houseboat is that you can dock your boat at different location each night and wake up to new views every morning. Plus, at both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, you may want to look into AZ jet ski rentals to accompany your houseboat. Jet skis can fit up to three people and allow you a more affordable and faster way to see all the lake sights, while having a lot more fun in the process!

Other recreational opportunities at or around Lake Mead and Lake Mohave include fishing, swimming, and sunbathing. You might also want to explore the shoreline or one of the islands or isolated beaches along the coast of both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave. These areas provide great places not only to stretch your legs but also to picnic or have some quiet time.

You can find a lot to do at both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, giving you miles and miles of watersport and outdoor recreational opportunities. Plus, if you have a rainy day, Las Vegas is never far away. Be sure to look into Lake Mead and the surrounding area for your summer vacation!
