Texas has a lot of diversity when it comes to its state parks’ attractions and amenities. Plus, Texas is so large, each region has its unique geological, temperate, and geographical features. One such TX state park is Lake Corpus Christi State Park near Mathis, Texas (just about three hours south of the Austin, TX area).
Part of the Gulf Coast region’s state parks, Lake Corpus Christi State Park consists of a 21,000-acre lake and more than 356 acres of recreational land. The most prominent attraction within the park is, of course, the lake. Many visitors come to Lake Corpus Christi for the boating, water skiing, fishing, and swimming opportunities available here. And with temperatures that can soar into the 90s during the summer, you will want to find a place like Lake Corpus Christi to cool off!
Due to these temperatures, we suggest that you take advantage of an Austin RV rental. The last thing you will want to do after a day full of activity in the sun is return to a tent to sweat the night away. Instead, invest in a restful vacation by getting an Austin, TX RV rental that features air conditioning and your own private shower! You will be glad you did. And just so you know, you can camp right there at Lake Corpus Christi State Park. Each of their sites have a picnic table and grill, and (for you motorhome users) a dump station.
Other non-water activities that you will want to check out in and around the state park include hiking, picnicking, bird watching, and visiting historic sites in the area. One historic site you may want to visit is the once-disputed boundary between Texas and Mexico after the Texas Revolution. You can still visit remnants of a ghost town once inhabited in an attempt to build a settlement in that area.
You may also want to take a drive toward Corpus Christi that is located on the Gulf Coast. Here, you can spend a day at the Texas State Aquarium. Or, you may want to try to catch a view of some sea turtles at Padre Island National Seashore. Only about 40 minutes away from Lake Corpus Christi State Park, the city of Corpus Christi is a great place to eat, shop, and take in some entertainment while you are in Texas. If you’re a sports fan, you may want to try to catch a local semi-pro baseball or indoor football game.
There’s no end to what you can do and see in and around Lake Corpus Christi State Park. Although the park itself may not be the best Texas has to offer, it is definitely in a great location and can offer you some much-needed rest and relaxation at the lake.
