Newark's Cherry Blossom Festival

Here’s an event that’s coming up soon! If you plan to be in Newark, New Jersey or the Essex County area in mid-April, you will want to check out the Cherry Blossom Festival. This annual event takes place in the Newark-Belleville region of NJ and is intended to celebrate the beauty of the cherry blossom trees and the coming of spring.

Next to Washington D.C., Newark and Belleville’s Branch Brook Park has the United States’ second largest collection of cherry blossom trees. And they are quite a sight to behold—the imported pink buds blooming and welcoming you to come enjoy their beautiful color and scents as the seasons ebb from winter to spring. You will definitely want to bring your camera to capture the beauty of this many flowering trees all in one location.

And you will definitely want to look into getting a Newark passenger van rental so you can easily travel from each event during the festival. There are many things to do and see in Newark around this time of the year. Here are just a few of the events you make want to check out or participate in:

  • Bike Race: On Saturday, April 10, cyclists compete in a variety of competitive races through the park. Cyclists can register online, and spectators can show up and view the excitement for free!
  • 10k and 1-Mile Fun Runs: If you are a runner or just want to participate in a little New Jersey tradition, then consider registering for one of the races. The fun run can include kids and begins at 9 am on Sunday, April 11. The 10k begins at 10 am. They are also holding a Race for the Disabled at 10:10 am, and a portion of the race’s proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics. You can register on the day of the race, beginning at 8 am; however, you may want to go online and print off a runner’s application to complete ahead of time.
  • Bloomfest: On Sunday, April 18, pink is the word for the day. Come celebrate and enjoy the imported pink cherry blossom trees as well as children’s activities, live music, food, Japanese cultural demonstrations, and much more. Admission to this event is free, and most activities center around the Essex County Cherry Blossom Welcome Center. This festival event is sure to be a pleaser for adults and kids alike.
