Located in California’s Sierra region and only a couple hour’s drive from the Sacramento area, Grover Hot Springs State Park may just be just what you need for your your next vacation. Open pine forests, sage meadows, and sagebrush characterize the surrounding area, but no doubt the main attraction are the hot springs.
People travel from all over to take a dip in the warm, mineral, spring-fed waters. Grover Hot Springs SP has both a hot pool and a cool pool for visitors to enjoy. In the winter, 50 people can be in the hot pool at one time, and during the summer, the pool capacity reaches 75. And even though some visitors wait almost two hours to get their turn, the experience is well worth your patience as your stresses and strains melt away in the warmth of the mineral waters. Note that weekends and holidays tend to be the busiest times to visit the hot springs, so you may want to plan your vacation around those peak seasons.
While some people visit the hot springs for only a day, we recommend that you enjoy them fully by getting a Sacramento motor home rental and staying several days or a week at Grover Hot Springs State Park. In addition to the hot springs, the park has much more to offer visitors, including a campground, hiking trails, picnic areas, and many scenic views. The campground at Grover Hot Springs State Park features both RV and trailer camp sites, but do enforce a maximum camper length of 27 feet and trailer length of 24 feet. So when you book your RV rental in Sacramento, check into the dimensions because you may need to find another campground in the area if your motor home is too big.
From Grover Hot Springs State Park, you can access the Burnside Trail. You can hike the Burnside Trail 3 miles round trip to see the waterfall or keep going on a 10-mile round trip trek to Burnside Lake, depending on the type of hiking you want to do. The trail follows Hot Springs Creek, where many visitors actually see and can catch trout. For more information on trail terrain and difficulty level, you will want to contact the park directly. You may also enjoy fishing at the nearby Carson River; plus, South Lake Tahoe is also less than an hour away for more recreational fun.
From relaxing in the natural hot springs pool to hiking the Burnside trail, you are bound to enjoy CA’s Grover Hot Springs State Park.
