Looking for a rainy-day or any-day activity in the Fort Lauderdale area? Do you need to find a place that’s great for kids and adults? If so, then check out the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science. This Florida museum is packed with activities and education exhibits for all ages and interests. The Museum of Discovery and Science has over 200 interactive and educational displays, featuring activities like petting an alligator, getting up close to a 12-foot snake, taking a simulated trip into space, and much more.

Plus, you can check out a movie on the Museum of Discovery and Science’s five-story-high AutoNation IMAX theater screen. This theater feature stadium-style seating where you can sit back and take in a movie on the largest movie screen in South Florida. The IMAX theater offers some of the most recent Blockbuster films as well as some educational and exciting movies you will want to check out. Located only about 15 minutes from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, you may decide to head straight for the Museum of Discovery and Science in your Florida mini van rental. Doing so will be quite easy as you can find great Fort Lauderdale car rental companies near the airport. You can even book one in advance so you can avoid the hassle once you land. Or, you may decide to use your car or van rental later on in your vacation.

Either way, here are some of the exhibits you will want to explore once you arrive at the Museum of Discovery and Science:

  • Great Gravity Clock – one of only three of its kind in the entire world, the Gravity Clock is the largest kinetic energy sculpture in Florida. Standing 52-feet-tall, this structure is quite impressive and a fun way to tell time!

Even more exhibits and interactive displays await you at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science. Admission to both the exhibits and one IMAX movie costs between $12 and $16 per person (based on age). You can also purchase IMAX tickets or exhibit tickets separately. However, rates are subject to change, so be sure to call ahead for most up-to-date information. Note that the Museum is open 365 days a year, including Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Located right in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, you must take at least an afternoon away from the beach to check out the Museum of Discovery and Science. This fun and educational environment is a great place for you and/or your family to enjoy on your next Florida vacation, even if you don’t have a rainy day.
