Right outside the Nashville, TN area is a beautiful little town called Smithville that holds an annual Fiddlers’ Jamboree and Crafts Festival that visitors will not want to miss. For vacationers in the Nashville area over the July 4th holiday weekend, you will want to include Smithville in your plans for either July 2 or 3, 2010.
This year is the 39th annual Fiddlers’ Jamboree & Crafts Festival and will include a variety of attractions and activities. The festival includes two days of live Appalachian music from artists and musicians — a throwback to Tennessee musical and cultural tradition. You are sure to enjoy the bluegrass music as you sit back and enjoy the musicians or browse the unique crafts displayed by local artisans. Plus, the entire festival is free to attend!
A few of the scheduled events for the 2010 Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree & Crafts Festival include the following:
- Old-Time Appalachian Folksinging
- Clogging for all ages
- Buckdancing
- Dulcimer performances
- Gospel solos, duets, trios, and quartets
- Banjo and mandolin performances
- Contests for all bluegrass musicians
As you can see, you can attend the festival any time during the day and get to hear some great music. The festival begins at 9 a.m. both days, and contestant registration (in case you want to compete in a particular musical category for some cash prizes) begins at 8 a.m. The Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree & Crafts Festival also includes a wide array of arts, crafts, and good food you can enjoy right along with the good music. Plus, Smithville is located right next to Center Hill Lake, a great outdoor recreation area.
If you have not found a place to stay while in the Smithville area, you may want to check into a cozy cabin rental in Tennessee. In fact, some cabin rentals are located right along Center Hill Lake, which can afford you some supplementary fun to the Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree & Crafts Festival. In addition to a Center Hill Lake cabin rental, you may also want to check out local camping opportunities in and around Smithville, which allows you to be close to the action and find affordable accommodations for both tent and motor home sites.
So if you happen to be going to Nashville over the fourth of July or are close enough to make a special trip to Smithville, TN, you should stop by the Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree & Crafts Festival for some small-town charm and Tennessee-style music. And if you can’t make the festival this year, be sure to put it on next year’s vacation calendar for the Friday and Saturday closest to the fourth of July — a Smithville annual tradition and perhaps a new one for your family vacation plans.
