Glacier National Park

Having opened in 1910 as the United States’ tenth national park, Glacier National Park celebrates its centennial this year. You can find no better time to visit Glacier National Park than the summer of 2010 to see all that this park has to offer. Located in Montana, Glacier National Park is known for its majestic mountain peaks, beautiful valleys, and clear waters that run throughout the park.

Glacier National Park is a great place to go sightseeing and to engage in some once-in-a-lifetime outdoor activities. You and your family can find many things to do at Glacier National Park, whether you decide to visit for a day or for several days or even weeks. In this post, we’ll give you an overview of the exciting opportunities and attractions that await you at Glacier National Park in Montana.

Note that Glacier National Park does have historic hotels within the park, but for a more authentic national park experience, you may want to try out one of their 13 campgrounds. In total, the park has almost 1,000 camping sites to accommodate guests from all over the work. Plus, you can even go on a backcountry camping trip and camp out under the stars (recommend for experienced hikers and backpackers only).

Besides camping, other activities you can enjoy at Glacier National Park include:

  • Hiking more than 700 miles of trails (including both short and easy hikes to difficult multi-day treks).
  • Bicycling on the Going-to-the-Sun Road that runs through the park.
  • Taking a bus tour of the park.
  • Fishing the waters and lakes throughout the park (note that fishing restrictions and rules apply; check the park website for more info).
  • Horseback riding through marked trails with the help of a skilled guide.

Another great way to experience Glacier National Park in its entirety is to get a motorcycle rental in Glacier Park and riding the 50-mile Going-to-the-Sun Road that weaves throughout the peaks and valleys. Or, if motorcycles aren’t your thing, you can also find a Jeep rental in MT. Both of these options allow you to see the entire park in a fun way, letting the breeze blow through your hair as you explore the glacial peaks and chiseled valleys. If you have only one day at Glacier National Park, experts on the park website recommend that driving the Going-to-the-Sun Road is the best way to experience the park in a short amount of time.

Located just a few hours away from Missoula, MT, Glacier National Park is an American gem that your family needs to experience on your next vacation. This destination is especially great for families or individuals who enjoy unadulterated wilderness areas and exploring the outdoors. Check it out!
