When you visit South Florida, you want to spend as much time as you can in the sun. However, if you want a fun way to break away from the beach, then why not try one of the local water parks? A water park is especially a great option for families who want to include unique and memorable experiences on their family vacation (and if you have kiddos who just won’t sit still on the beach).

One water park in South Florida that you may want to check out is Rapids Water Park. People from all over South Florida, visitors and locals, like to come to Rapids Water Park for a day of water rides, floating in the lazy river, and much more. Rapids Water Park has more than 29 water rides, many of which are suitable for kids! If you want to tackle the largest water slide in South Florida, then, you will want to definitely make your way to Big Thunder. In a four-person tube, you and three other people will travel up to 20 miles per hour through the giant funnel that is Big Thunder.

Other water rides you might want to check out include:

  • Black Thunder – enjoy the thrill of a water ride in total darkness as you twist and turn through a pitch-black tunnel.
  • Pirate’s Plunge – if you really want a wild ride and don’t have a fear of heights, you can take the Pirate’s Plunge down this seven-story slide that includes dips, turns, and little surprises you may not have expected.
  • Big Surf – if you want a more mild water ride option, then check out the Big Surf wave pool. You can still have a lot of fun as waves up to six-feet-tall splash around you.
  • Lazy River – need a break? Grab a float and relax on the lazy river as it moves you gently through the water park, where you can soak in the sun and watch the excitement around you.
  • Kid-specific attractions – Rapids Water Park has three attractions that are designed with kids in mind. You can climb above gators and dragons at Alligator Alley, enjoy water slides at Splish Splash Lagoon, and wade in the water at the Tadpool (great for toddlers!).

Rapids Water Park is located about an hour north of the Fort Lauderdale, FL area in Riviera Beach, making it a great day-trip in your Ft. Lauderdale mini van rental. You can easily find a Florida car rental agency nearby the Fort Lauderdale Park that will give you an affordable car rental option. Then, when you see fit, you and your family can make your way to Rapids Water Park for some South Florida fun!
