Many people have a dream to swim with dolphins sometime in their lives. And those who have already experienced swimming with dolphins have chalked it up to being of the best things they’ve ever done. Florida has numerous places where you can swim with dolphins. Why not make this dream a reality during your next vacation to Florida?
One place to swim with dolphins is Miami Seaquarium. Located in Key Biscayne, Florida, Miami Seaquarium is the perfect place to meet one of the most popular creatures of the ocean. Three main dolphin programs are offered: Dolphin Odyssey, Dolphin Encounter, and Trainer for a Day.
Dolphin Odyssey first trains you in the classroom about dolphin interaction. Following your classroom training, you will put on a wet suit and jump into the water! In the water, you will be able to see up-close, hug, pet, and kiss the dolphins and even have them take you on a ride across the pool. Note that you must be at least 52” tall, and reservations are suggested.
A second program offered is Dolphin Encounter. This program also starts off with informational training. It is then followed by a chance to wade in the water with the dolphins. Here you can touch, feed, and play with dolphins. Trainers are also near and ready to teach you about how they train dolphins. Children five and up can participate in this encounter, so your whole family can enjoy meeting and petting “Flipper.” Don’t forget to rub their bellies; dolphins love this!
A third program offered by Miami Seaquarium is called Trainer for a Day. Just like it sounds, you will be able to work behind-the-scenes with dolphin trainers. You will be given the opportunity to learn the basics about training and also about how the animal shows are ran. You can help with the set-up of shows and watch and critique the shows. Many other daily activities with the animals will also be shown to you during your training day.
Miami Seaquarium is the perfect Florida day trip for those staying in Fort Lauderdale, as it is only a forty-five minute drive in your Fort Lauderdale van rental.
