Itching to head out West and visit someplace new? Try taking a trip to Austin, Texas. While you are there, make sure to spend a day at Barton Springs Pool. Here you will find a swimming pool over three acres in size. This pool is unique in the fact that the water is supplied from underground springs. All sorts of travelers come from all over to take a dip in this famous Texas pool!

Barton Springs was created many years ago and is the fourth largest natural spring in Texas. Locals have tagged it the preferred swimming hole. This swimming hole is almost always 68 degrees, so be prepared to feel refreshed. Located in Zilker Park, it was named after Andrew Zilker who first came to Texas in the late 1800’s with fifty cents in his pocket and a dream to hit it rich. Zilker did just that as he later bought an ice plant and became the first Coca-Cola bottler in Austin.

Barton Springs Pool became even more popular in 1917 when it became part of a city park. In 1929, it was enlarged to be over 1,000 feet long. Several dams and sidewalks were added later. Over the years, the spring has been the site of a flour mill, a source of drinking water, a location for baptisms, a fun place to picnic, a social gathering, a place for musical performances, and a great place to swim and fish.

The setting at Barton Springs Pool is extremely quaint with fresh spring water and pecan trees lining the water. Many locals know this secret of the pool: if you dive down under the diving board you can take a look at the main spring. This spring pumps an average of 27 million gallons of water a day!

Admission to the pool is extremely reasonable – $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. Every Saturday a movie is played at dusk during the Texas summer months. Many enjoy grabbing a floating and enjoying a fun movie night under the stars.

While you are in Texas, we recommend you check out an Austin RV Rental, as they provide for you a wonderful way to see the countryside. For a good night’s sleep, park your Austin camper at Lone Star RV Resort. This resort has been featured in The New York Times and USA Today as being an award-winning, 5-star RV resort. Many amenities are offered, and for breakfast you will be able to try their world-famous, all-you-can eat pancakes for only $1.

Travel to Austin, Texas, and visit the Barton Springs Pool and other local attractions. Let us know about your trip and what you thought!
