Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo

Be sure to check out one of Indiana’s main attractions – The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. Located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, this zoo has been rated as one of the nation’s ten best zoos for kids. It has received many similar ratings and is also known as being one of the best places to visit in the Northern Indiana area. The Fort Wayne Children’s zoo has also been internationally recognized for its displays, award-winning animal exhibits, and well-maintained grounds.

The zoo is open April through October. Admission is $13.00 for adults, $8.00 for children, and children 1 and under are free, and parking is also free. Many food stands offering hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, and nachos can be found throughout the park. Also visit one of the two Dairy Queen locations in the park for food and ice cream for dessert! Be sure to check out the daily feedings and trainings of different animals throughout the zoo.

Many main exhibits are up for the exploring. Visit the Australian Adventure where you can see an aquarium with fish from the Great Barrier Reef, dingoes, kangaroos, echidnas, and fruit bats. Next explore the Indonesian Rainforest and discover orangutans, gibbons, tigers, and an 18-foot snake!

The farm area shows what many Indiana farms look like and includes pigs, horses, bunnies, and goats that you can pet and feed. As you walk around to the different branches of the zoo, watch in the main section for alligators, sea lions, sea otters, monkeys, and more.

The most recent add-on to the zoo is the African Journey, just finished in the past several years.  Here you can see zebras, lions, ostriches, vultures, mongooses, and giraffes. Excitement came last year as the zoo witnessed the birth of Zuri – a baby giraffe. Come visit Zuri (Swahili for “flower”) and also walk out on the 14-foot platform to feed giraffes some lettuce. This is a neat opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Children can enjoy many different rides including:

  • Pony rides
  • Endangered species carousel
  • River ride
  • Ski safari
  • Zoo train

While you are in the Fort Wayne area, be sure to take your Indianapolis RV rental for a drive to nearby Pokagon State Park. Pokagon is located in Angola, Indiana, and only a 45-minute drive north out of Fort Wayne. This state park is the perfect place to camp, hike, fish, swim, paddle boat, picnic, and ride horses. They have a sand volleyball court at the beach that is sure to provide a fun time for your family. Many playgrounds can also be found throughout the park.

When traveling in your Indiana motorhome rental, be sure to visit Pokagon State Park and The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. Both are Indiana attractions that ensure a great time will be had by you and your family on your next vacation.  You will definitely enjoy this chance to see some unique animals up-close and to take your camper to a beautiful state park!
