If you are traveling to Alaska on your next vacation, be sure to check out the Alaska Sealife Center. Visiting an aquarium on vacation is an excellent way to learn about all the animals that live in the area. Many you might encounter while exploring their homeland. It is also a neat way to learn about some of the animals that you might not see on your vacation due to the fact that they live deep underwater or not in the area you will be exploring.
The Alaska Sealife Center is the only public aquarium and ocean wildlife rescue center in the state of Alaska. This center is located in Seward on Resurrection Bay. A great deal can be learned about the Alaskan wildlife as well as the arctic and subarctic marine ecosystems.
The aquarium is fairly new to Alaska; it opened in May of 1998. Its main role is to serve as a location for marine research and laboratories where scientists can conduct experiments. One of their main jobs is to focus on the population of marine mammals and seabirds in the North Pacific Ocean that is declining. There has been an exceptionally large sea lion population decline over the past several years, and researchers are also looking into this.
If you and your Alaska RV rental are staying in or near the Anchorage area, you can definitely check out the Alaska Sealife Center. It is only a two-hour drive from Anchorage, Alaska. Adults and children alike will find many things to see and exhibits to view at the 55,000 square foot aquarium.
