The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is a nonprofit institution that was created back in 1925. Their goal is to create positive family learning experiences that will transform the lives of many children and their families. Eleven major galleries are up for the exploring and cover the areas of science, world culture, art, dinosaurs, and the impact children can have on the world of today. Hundreds of additional programs and activities are also offered each year!
Children of all ages are sure to enjoy the many exhibits the museum has to offer. Four floors and a lower level hold future discoveries for all. The lower level offers SpaceQuest Planetarium. It has a large seating area with over fifty slide projectors, many video projects, and sky effects.
Also on the lower level is Fireworks of Glass – the largest permanent sculpture (over 43 feet tall!) made of beautifully-colored blown glass. While you are downstairs, don’t forget to check out All Aboard, which is a gallery dedicated to trains. Learn about the different types of trains throughout the years and view a 55-ton steam engine replica.
The main exhibit on level one of the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is called Dinosphere. Just like it sounds, this exhibit is all about dinosaurs. Your kids are sure to be amazed by some of the sites here such as a large number of dinosaur fossils and dinosaur dig fun facts.
Level two has the museum’s newest exhibit – Take Me There, Egypt. Here you can learn about traditional Egyptian life. Learn about their homes, shopping expeditions to the marketplace, and how they celebrate traditions. Hands-on activities provide great learning experiences for your kids!
Level three focuses on educating children about many famous children in history who made a difference in other people’s lives. There is also a playground built special to help your kids let out some energy! And finally, level four has a variety of different exhibits geared towards science and its fun discoveries. While you are up there, take a ride on the Carousel Wishes and Dreams.
